Tonight, read the article about the teacher's strike in Chicago. Consider what we read about the reasons why the union movement was created and how it spread. Answer the following questions comparing the two movements.
1. What were the teachers in Chicago striking for?
2. What was the response to their strike by the City of Chicago? by the school district?
3. What was the response to their strike by citizens?
4. Consider why unions were created. In what ways were the striking teachers living up to those standards? What else could the teacher unions have done to reach their desired results?
5. In what ways are teacher's unions necessary? In what ways are they not necessary?
