Today we looked at the case of imperialism in Nigeria and explored some of the impacts that imperialism had on local populations and how the local populations reacted to imperialism.

Today we introduced the idea of imperialism and their links to industrialization. We explained some reasons that imperialism and how that is related to industrialization.

Tonight, read the beginning of Chapter 11, Section 1, beginning on pg 305.  Read about empire building in Africa.  List the reasons why Europeans took over Africa, how they did, and how the locals responded to this expansion.

Modified Assignment:  Read Ch. 11, Section 1, beginning on pg 305. Find two reasons that Europeans took over Africa. List 1 way how they took over Africa, and 1 way that locals responded to this expansion.

Today, we explored the reasons why industrialization occurred and where.  We looked at a map and explored where industrialization spread to.

Tonight, focus on one of the following individuals:

• James Watt
• Eli Whitney
• Henry Bessemer
• Louis Pasteur
• Thomas Edison

Write an expository essay about one of the inventors listed above.  Explain their major inventions/discoveries.  Explain how this individual inspires technological/scientific change and how that led to societal changes as well. Your essay should be at least 5 paragraphs and include:

• An Introduction
• A conclusion
• 3 body paragraphs
• at least 1 technological change
• at least 1 cultural/societal change

 and be

• typed
• 1 page long
• in 12 point font
• written in either Times New Roman, Helvetical, or Arial font

Today, we introduced the concepts of Industrialization.  We looked at some images about industrialization and discussed some of the issues associated with industrialization.
Tonight,
Complete Chapter 9, Section 1 Terms and Names.  This will help us complete our introduction of Industrialization, including what it is and why it occurred  Create vocabulary bagels for each of the Terms and Names.  Make sure to include:  the term, book definition, student definition, a sentence using the term, and a picture that explains the term.
