Essay:  Write an expository essay in which you compare the fairy story Animal Farm with the Russian Revolution.  Compare the characters to their real life counterparts, compare the actual events with the plot in the story.  Reread the Preface and Introduction to the story again and answer the following questions:
1.  In what ways did Animal Farm fulfill George Orwell's purpose for writing the story?  In what ways did it fall short?
2.  What themes should Orwell have focused more on?  What themes should Orwell have downplayed a little? Why?
3.  In what ways was the book a mirror of what happened in the Russian Revolution?  In what ways did the book misrepresent what happened (aside from the fact that the story has animals that can talk)?  How could Orwell improved those parts of the book and still maintained the integrity of the story?

Board Games

World War I Game

You and your group are going to design a World War I game. (Think board games)

Your game must focus on the major players, technological advancements, effects, causes, battles, and/or events of World War I. For example, your game could take players through a timeline of World War I, or it could focus on four of the major technological advancements. Maybe it could be a clever play on Monopoly, Scrabble, or Don't Break the Ice!!!

Your focus today is to design:

  1. The name of your game

  1. The focus of your game (a timeline of World War I, WWI trivia, technological advancements, major battles, etc)

  1. Rules for your game

  1. a gameboard for your game

  1. the specific tools that you will need for your game (cards, dice, spinners, game pieces, etc)

On Tuesday, come to class ready to complete your game (no more than 20 mins) and be ready to share your game with the class!!!!

Your game should :
  1. include at least 10 World War I facts

  1. include at least 5 images that represent World War I

  1. be historically accurate

  1. walk the player through World War I (causes, warfare, effects)

  1. reference important leaders (Wilson, Clemeceau, George), events (Assassination of the Archduke, Battle of Marne, Treaty of Versailles, etc)

You will be graded on the following:
____ Historical accuracy (your game is well research and doesn't contain historical mistakes) (10 points)

____ Thorough (your game takes players through the entirety of the war) (10 points)

____ Gameplay (your game is easy to play, makes sense) (10 points)

____ Images (5 points)

____ Creativity (your game is a clever play on an already existant game or is an original) (10 points)

____ Complete (your game, when presented is complete) (10 points)
